22 families on the Housing List in County Clare are set to receive offers of new homes during the coming months after Clare County Council announced it is to shortly begin restoring properties in 14 towns and villages to full use.
Following a submission for funding by Clare County Council's Housing Department, the Department of the Environment, Community & Local Government has allocated €400,740 for the purpose of refurbishing the 22 vacant properties.
The properties are located in Clarecastle, Ennistymon (3 each), Kildysart, Tulla, Corofin and Sixmilebridge (2 each), Ennis, Mullagh, Cross, Newmarket-On-Fergus, Shannon, Kilkee, Miltown Malbay and Broadford (1 each).
Mayor of Clare Cllr. Joe Arkins stated: "I am delighted the Council has been provided with the necessary funds to restore 22 properties across the County and to turn them into homes once again. This investment is breathes new life into the local communities concerned as empty houses are refurbished and once again occupied. I wish the occupants of these properties the very best for the future."
Chair of Clare County Council’s Housing SPC, Cllr. Patricia McCarthy described the funding investment an "important step" towards reducing the number of families awaiting accommodation on the Housing List.
"This is an significant announcement not only because part of our vacant housing stock is being put back into use, but it also addresses the clear need and demand for additional housing units in various locations throughout the County," she added.
