The organisers of a manufacturing exhibition and trade show claim new business opportunities will be created for Munster’s manufacturing businesses and sub-contractors in the coming weeks and months as a result of their participation in the event.
More than 100 companies gathered in the Oakwood Arms Hotel in Shannon, Co. Clare for the Supply Network Shannon (SNS) event which brought multinationals, SME’s and Micro Enterprises in the together with the primary goal of developing new business.
60 one-to-one “Meet the Buyer” meetings took place, 33 companies took part in the SMILE Facilitated Networking and 78 companies visited the 52 exhibitors. During the course of the exhibition, Ulearning, SP Eco and SNS also held workshops and seminars in Sustainable Manufacturing, Supply Chain Management and Green Business.
According to event organiser and SNS Chairman Mark O’Sullivan: “What the event highlighted for us and those in attendance is that local companies in the Munster region need to look inward for subcontract manufacturers, suppliers and service providers. There is a wealth of skill in the region that has been largely untapped by the larger companies up to now. I would also call on companies to make use of our Third Level institutes to avail of research and more importantly product development.”
The exhibition was opened by local Senator Tony Mulcahy, who called for an “Avionic Workgroup” to be set up by SNS and it members. Senator Mulcahy also highlighted that manufacturing companies are key to the future economic recovery and success of the region.
Speaking after the event, the Clare Fine Gael Senator said: “The manufacturing sector is one that has shown potential for real growth despite the difficult operating environment. This event showcased the wealth of quality manufacturing operators and sub-contractors operating in the Munster Region as well as facilitated the securing of new business for manufacturers and sub supply contractors. It was well attended by operators in the manufacturing sector, including avionics, electronics and precision engineering.”
Deputy Tom Barry, TD & Chairman of the Jobs, Enterprise & Innovation Committee also attended the event during which he highlighted the government’s action plan to create jobs, which includes the microfinance scheme, the government loan guarantee and the e-Commerce grant.
Commenting on the event, Ann Sheehan, MD of Limerick-based Entellexi stated: “This was our first year participating and it has certainly grown our pipeline. I know from speaking with other members that it was equally successful, particularly the 'Meet the Buyers'.”
