New President For Shannon Chamber

In line with its two-year rotation policy, Shannon Chamber has appointed Damian Gleeson, FCCA, Audit & Assurance Partner with Grant Thornton Limerick to the role of Chamber president.

Vice-chair since 2008, Limerick-native Mr Gleeson, who resides at Minister’s Cross, Bunratty, Co Clare, replaces outgoing president, Ian Barrett of Loyalty Build, Ennis.

Welcoming Mr Gleeson to the chair, Shannon Chamber’s chief executive, Helen Downes said: “A partner with Accountancy firm Grant Thornton since 2004, Damian’s business advisory experience in indigenous industry, gained through working with clients in engineering, property, motor retail and retail sectors, coupled with his considerable knowledge of issues that face international companies, will serve the Chamber well. His well-grounded business acumen will inform Chamber policy and contribute to commentary on issues impacting on or affecting the Shannon region. As incoming Captain of Limerick Golf Club, this will be an energising year for our new president.”

Thanking outgoing president Ian Barrett for his enormous contribution to Shannon Chamber, Ms Downes added: “The Chamber is extremely grateful to Ian for his unwavering dedication during his term of office. Under his stewardship, the Chamber has grown in membership to over 220, representing in excess of 7,000 employees in the greater Shannon area and beyond. We welcome his continuing contribution as a board member,” added Ms Downes.

Joe Robbins, managing director, CareerWise, Ballycasey,Shannon, has been inaugurated as Shannon Chamber’s vice chair.
