Labour Seeks Clarity On HSE Cuts

The Labour Party Spokesperson on Health Deputy Jan O’Sullivan has called for more clarity Mary Harney’s voluntary redundancy and early retirement plan for the HSE.

The Limerick East T.D. said: “In principle it is a good idea to reduce the number of senior management and administrators within HSE. As far back as May 2008 we published a six-point plan to reform the HSE document (The Road to Recovery) which included in it proposals for a voluntary early retirement redundancy and redeployment scheme, as part of the rationalisation of management structures.

“I have some concerns with Minister Harney’s plan, the first being the short time frame for the plan to be implemented as well as the first-come first-served basis of the plan which could lead to gaps in the service, with the people we need going and the people we need to go staying.

“We have to ensure that we do not strip the service of vital people", Deputy O'Sullivan concluded.
