Limerick city centre parking facilities make shopping easier

The Mayor of Limerick is urging people to shop local this Christmas and to take advantage of the thousands of car parking spaces available across the city centre.

Limerick City Council and private car park owners have also joined up to promote Christmas and New Year shopping in the city centre by promoting the reduced parking rates and special offers being made available to motorists.

Cllr. Kathleen Leddin said that the wide ranging and quality shopping experience offered in Limerick City Centre is complemented by the year round provision of thousands of cost efficient parking spaces.

“I would call on the people of Limerick and surrounding areas to avail of the excellent parking facilities available throughout the city centre and to show their support for local businesses this Christmas and during 2014,” she added.

Mayor Leddin continued: “I would like to compliment private car park owners in the city centre for playing their part in drawing visitors to Limerick, increasing footfall on the streets of the city and boosting consumer spending. Ultimately, the provision of low cost and accessible parking facilities in our city is key to the future prosperity of the city centre commercial sector. It should also be noted that every euro spent locally remains in the community and helps to sustain existing and create new employment within the retail sector and elsewhere.”

Limerick City Council is this Christmas providing free on-street parking up to midday each Friday in December, while 80 new disc parking spaces have been provided at the junction of Ellen Street and Michael Street.

Elsewhere, many of the larger private car parks such as Arthur’s Quay Car Park and Harvey’s Quay (Dunnes Stores) provide reduced or free parking to customers. Special parking rates are also available during Christmas and throughout 2014 at Q-Park Henry Street (Behind Jurys Inn hotel), Q-Park Cruises Street and Corn Market Square Car Park (Upper Denmark Street). Each of the Q-Park facilities also enable the public to pre-book their city centre car parking online or over the phone.

Meanwhile, 15 city centre shops provide parking promotions at the City Centre Car Park on Thomas Street.
