Clare County Council is reminding community groups across Clare that the deadline for receipt of grant applications under the 2014 Heritage Management Scheme is 15th January next.
The Heritage Council has allocated €700,000 to the Scheme in order to support local projects that apply good heritage practice to the management of places, collections or objects, including buildings.
Congella McGuire, Clare Heritage Officer described the Scheme as an “important opportunity” to develop the role of communities in the preservation and promotion of County Clare’s heritage.
She explained: “The aim of this grants programme is to encourage and enable people throughout the county to record, conserve, restore and celebrate the distinctive qualities of their local heritage, their community and their environment. We hope to build on the wonderful range of projects that have been carried out on a voluntary basis by many communities throughout Clare over the past number of years”.
Ms. McGuire noted that the Heritage Council can only consider applications in the fields of national heritage specified in the Heritage Act 1995. This includes monuments, archaeological objects, heritage objects, architectural heritage, flora, fauna, wildlife habitats, landscapes, seascapes, wrecks, geology, heritage gardens, and parks and inland waterways.
Ms. McGuire added: Buildings and structures that are not included on the Record of Protected Structures will be considered for funding. Consideration will also be given where the special heritage interest of the building or structure is demonstrated to be at risk.”
"The Clare Heritage Office would be delighted to offer support and advice in order to assist community groups and individuals in their application for funding for projects,” she concluded.
Grant applications must be submitted using the Heritage Council's online application system at www.heritagecouncil.ie before 5.00pm on 15 January 2014.
