A Four Ball comprising members from Adare and Rathbane Golf Clubs in County Limerick has won the 5th annual Clare Ultimate Golf Challenge, the final of which was held at Dromoland Castle Golf & Country Club on Thursday (6 November).
Bart Moylan, Alphonsus Franklin, Fred Hofker and Pat Newman were crowned champions after scoring a Round of 74 in poor weather conditions at the world-renowned castle golf course.
In the only competition of its kind in Ireland, over 300 golfers were afforded the opportunity to play all of County Clare’s 10 golf courses between April and September. The top 8 ranking teams competed in a final held at Dromoland Castle Golf & Country Club. Other participating courses included Lahinch, Trump International Golf Links Doonbeg, Ennis, Woodstock, Shannon, Spanish Point, Kilrush, Kilkee and East Clare.
Donnagh Gregson, Chair of the Clare Tourism Forum confirmed all proceeds raised by the event will go towards the Forum’s 2015 marketing campaign.
Ms. Gregson congratulated the winning Four Ball on their achievement after they beat off competition from 80 other teams, 63 of which came from outside of Clare, while she also acknowledged the contribution of Clare’s ten golf clubs to the success of the competition.
She added: “Through hosting the Clare Ultimate Golf Challenge, the Clare Tourism Forum offers golfers the unique opportunity to play all ten Clare golf courses, including two of the world’s top 100 ranked courses. Since its launch in 2010, this initiative has helped to secure the continuation of the successful and effective marketing and promotional activities carried out by the Clare Tourism Forum.”
Clare Tourism Forum marketing executive Maureen Cleary said the Challenge has gone from strength to strength with most counties in Ireland represented during the past 5 years.
“We are delighted this year’s competition has once again generated funds that will be injected into marketing and promotional activities next year. The Clare Tourism Forum is very grateful to the participating golf clubs, without whose support this event would not be possible,” Ms. Cleary added.
