Clare Senator Tony Mulcahy says he has received confirmation from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) of its decision to allocate funding totalling almost €335,000 for two separate energy projects in County Clare.
Senator Mulcahy said the financial support is being received under the Better Energy Communities and Areas Grant Scheme and will deliver substantial improvements and savings in homes, community buildings and local authority premises across Clare.
Clare County Council is receiving €231,022 to improve the energy efficiency of a diverse range of public properties and community buildings across Clare, as well as establish a working relationship for the delivery of efficient water supplies with Irish Water.
Properties scheduled to benefit from the funding announcement include Áras Contae an Chláir, Active Ennis Leisure Centre, Clare Museum, Sean Lemass Public Library in Shannon, Castlelake Water Treatment Plant and Ballymacraven water pump.
Meanwhile, a project being led by Kingspan and supported by Clare County Council and Electric Ireland will see 166 Local Authority owned houses across suburban and rural areas of Clare benefit from energy upgrades. €103,500 has been allocated for the purpose of carrying works to the properties, 154 of which are described as energy poor with 12 classified as non-fuel poor.
According to Senator Mulcahy: "Energy retrofitting is really important for Ireland in terms of ongoing efforts to reduce expensive imports of fossil fuel and provide much needed employment. It is essential that investment in energy retrofitting schemes continues in order for Ireland to achieve the EU 2020 energy efficiency target."
