Fine Gael Clare Senator Tony Mulcahy has confirmed that 19 Clare schools which do not currently operate a book rental scheme will receive €235,900 in funding during 2014 and 2015.
Senator Mulcahy said Ruairí Quinn, T.D. Minister for Education and Skills also informed him that all other Clare primary schools are to benefit from a separate National Book Rental Scheme fund of €8.3m during 2014.
He explained: "I am delighted to learn that all of Clare's primary schools are to benefit from this valuable initiative, the funding for which was secured through the proceeds of the sale of the National Lottery. I particularly welcome the €235,900 in funding that has been set aside for 19 local schools which do not currently operate a book rental scheme. This scheme is designed to reduce the costs associated with school attendance and to take pressure off hard pressed parents who want the best education possible for their children."
Senator Mulcahy added: “€8.3 million in funding has also been set aside to assist the many primary schools around Ireland, including Clare, who already operate book rental schemes. This will be a great boost to those schools who have worked hard to establish their own schemes and who may now be able to use the funding to expand their schemes or even to upgrade their book collections."
“The 19 schools in Clare set to receive funding to help them in establish new book rental schemes include: CBS Ennis (€64,600), Clonlara NS (€34,000), Knockanean NS (€27,800), St. Mary's N.S. Lahinch (€15,100), Meelick NS (€14,800), Ruan NS (€11,100), Kilkishen NS (€10,400), Inchicronan NS (€10,100), Raheen Wood Steiner School Tuamgraney (€8,800), Moveen NS (€6,900), Mountshannon NS (€6,500), Ballyvaughan NS (€4,200), SN Colm Cille Ennistymon (€4,100), Ballycar NS (€3,900), Lissycasey NS (€3,700), Kilbaha NS (€3,500), Bodyke NS (€2,400), Querrin NS (€2,000) and Fanore NS (€2,000). The schools in receipt of funding collectively have 2,359 children enrolled," concluded Senator Mulcahy.
