Report outlines €36.8M storm damage to Council infrastructure

Clare County Council has revised upwards the estimated cost of undertaking remedial works to local authority managed public infrastructure damaged during recent storms.

The Local Authority has conducted an analysis of multiple coastal locations affected by the adverse weather conditions of December 26th/27th, January 3rd, January 6th and February 1st. Non-coastal locations affected by localised flooding were also assessed.

An initial report prepared by the Council on January 10th outlined costs totalling €23.7m to repair infrastructure damaged by the storms of late December and early January.

However, a new report presented to Clare County Council members this evening has presented a figure of €36.8m accounting for further structural damage reported along Clare’s Atlantic coastline and at some locations along the Shannon Estuary on February 1st, as well as the undoing of some remedial flood defence works carried out in mid to late January.

A copy of the updated report will be forwarded to the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government following the consideration of Clare’s Elected Members.
