Sports Capital Programme registration deadline next week

Clare Fine Gael Senator Tony Mulcahy has reminded local sports and voluntary organisations that the deadline for pre-registering for funding under the 2014 Sports Capital Programme is next week.

The Senator said the €40M Programme offers valuable financial assistance to organisations that are considering undertaking various developments and improvement works.

Senator Mulcahy noted that the Programme has been hugely beneficial to dozens of sporting organisations throughout Clare before it was ceased in 2009 and since its restoration in 2012.

He said: “This vitally important community funding scheme has played a major role in the development of sport in County Clare by allocating funding towards the provision of sports facilities and, in doing so, thereby assisting the fantastic efforts of both the volunteers who are the backbone of sport and also the many thousands who play sport, at whatever level.”

Senator Mulcahy said that the Programme features a strong emphasis on projects which increase active participation in sport, particularly in disadvantaged areas. “Under this scheme pitches will be drained, floodlights will be installed, sports halls will be improved and dressing rooms will be built”, he said.

The Senator urged groups making applications to familiarise themselves with the conditions of eligibility, particularly in relation to local funding and planning permission, where applicable.

Application forms and information about how to apply is available on the website: www.sportscapitalprogramme.ie. The deadline for pre-registering is 5pm Friday 7th February, while the deadline for applications is 5pm Friday 28th February.

Clare organisations and projects that have received funding under the Programme in the past include Kilmaley GAA, Ennistymon Recreation & Leisure Centre, Tulla United AFC, Crusheen GAA, Kilfenora Heritage Association, Killaloe/Ballina Tennis Club, Bodyke GAA Club, Corbally United F.C., Wolfe Tones Camogie Club, Kilmurry/Ibrickane GAA, Kilrush Shamrocks, Burren Outdoor Education Centre, Ballina Killaloe RFC, Cumann Peil Cuar an Chláir, Lissycasey GAA Club, Mullagh Sports Field, O’Callaghan’s Mills GAA Club, Scariff GAA Club, St. Pat’s AFC in Kilmihil and Scariff RFC.
