10-year strategy for Kilkee to be unveiled next week

A new strategy aimed at guiding the promotion and development of Kilkee over the next 10 years will be launched at Cultúrlann Sweeney on Monday, 3 February next at 7.30pm.
“Towards a Better Kilkee: A Town Improvement & Economic Development Strategy 2014-2024” has been prepared by Clare County Council, in association with Kilkee Town Council and various community groups.

The short and medium term priorities outlined in the Strategy include a branding and marketing exercise for Kilkee, establishing contact with owners of all opportunity sites, promoting the existing coastal walks by upgrading signage and information, and a survey of derelict sites in the town.

The plan also proposes upgrading works to the iconic seafront bandstand, a comprehensive scheme of street and lane signage, and a Database of Accommodation linked to a comprehensive new website for the town.

The Strategy is described by the Mayor of Kilkee, Councillor Paddy Collins, as a blueprint for the future management and marketing of the town.

According to the Mayor: “This Strategy, which has been the subject of public consultation over the past 18 months, is aimed at generating new employment opportunities in the town, promoting the local tourism product and enhancing the physical appearance of Kilkee. I invite the local community and anyone interested in the town and its future development to come along to next Monday’s launch.” Anyone wishing to come will need to confirm attendance in advance.

The launch of “Towards a Better Kilkee” will also be attended by entrepreneur, broadcaster and former TV dragon, Bobby Kerr.  Mr. Kerr, whose father hails from the West Clare town, will be making a guest presentation on the night.

A limited number of places are available for the launch event on Monday 3rd February 2014 in Cultúrlann Sweeney, Kilkee at 7.30pm. Members of the public wishing to attend are requested to contact Jacinta Cadden of the Planning & Enterprise Development Department, Clare County Council on 065 684 6401 / jcadden@clarecoco.ie.
