Clare Senator Tony Mulcahy has today welcomed new figures showing a dramatic reduction in the number of public order offences recorded in County Clare during 2012 and the first half of 2013.
Senator Mulcahy said figures released by An Garda Síochána show a 9% decrease in the number of public order offences reported at Garda Stations across the County in 2012, compared to 2011.
He said: “There were 996 public order offences reported to Garda Stations in 2012 compared to 1096 for the previous year. While the figure remains unacceptably high, I maintain that the decreases recorded show Gardaí are continuing to successfully tackle anti-social behaviour. This work is being carried out in tandem with local communities the length and breadth of the county.”
Senator Mulcahy noted that overall public order offences for the first six months of 2013 suggest that overall offences for 2013 are “on target to finish well below those recorded in 2012”.
“Between January and June 2013, 409 public order offences were reported to Garda Stations in Ballyvaughan (2), Corofin (3), Crusheen (1), Ennis (200), Ennistymon (45), Kildysart (1), Kilkee (10), Killaloe (26), Kilrush (18), Miltown Malbay (2), Newmarket on Fergus (6), Scariff (6), Shannon (75), Sixmilebridge (11) and Tulla (3). This drop in the overall number of offences reported is testament to the hard work of our Gardaí who through the cooperation of the general public are helping to introduce a greater sense of responsibility when it comes to public order in our communities,” he added.
