Limerick will be represented at an annual event for the Irish Diaspora in England next month.
Councillor Patrick C. Fitzgerald, who is a member of Limerick County Council’s Social and Community SPC and who has spent over three decades strengthening links with the Irish Diaspora, will attend the Irish Post Business Gala Dinner at London’s Dorchester Hotel on October 31.
The dinner is the culmination of a series of business events showcasing the success and contribution of Irish business leaders and companies in Britain across industries such as construction, manufacturing, tourism, legal and finance. In attendance will be almost 150 Irish business people who have committed to be part of economic development in Ireland.
Councillor Fitzgerald said he was honoured to have been invited to attend next month’s event. He continued: “Events such as these are important for a number of reasons. They not only remind us of the solid connections that exist between County Limerick and its Diaspora, but they also serve to strengthen the sense of community spirit that exists among Limerick people in Britain. I will use the event as an opportunity to inform members of the Irish community who have established successful businesses in Britain that Limerick is an attractive investment location.”
Commenting on The Irish Post newspaper’s sponsorship of the event, Cllr. Fitzgerald said: “The Irish Post has been the newspaper of choice for the Irish Diaspora in Britain over many years. It showcases the wealth of activity ongoing within the Irish community there. I am delighted to learn that the newspaper has recently invested in the Irish Voice and Irish America magazine in a move that will secure its future and the level of media coverage provided for Irish people living abroad.”
Cllr. Fitzgerald was recently involved in a Gathering event in County Limerick that saw American Diaspora visiting from Chicago and Washington. In 2012, Cllr. Fitzgerald was invited by the Croom Family Association to attend the 90th annual “Gathering of the Crooms” at Chapel Hill, located near the North Carolina State capital of Raleigh. Cllr. Fitzgerald also held a meeting with former United States Ambassador to Ireland James Casey Kenny, Jenny Ryan of ConnectIreland and Joe Bredemann of Bredemann Family of Auto Dealerships, one of the U.S. Midwest’s largest and longest operating automotive dealerships.
