Eirtech Aviation expansion welcomed by Senator Mulcahy

Clare Senator Tony Mulcahy today welcomed the announcement by Shannon Airport headquartered Eirtech Aviation that it will shortly begin painting aircraft in the former Alitalia Paint hanger at Rome's Fiumicino Airport.
The Shannon-based Senator said the Rome facility brings the company’s number of dedicated aircraft painting locations to four, with over 20,000 sq metres of hangarage.

Senator Mulcahy congratulated the company on what he called “an ambitious business expansion programme that has further consolidated its position as an important employer in the Mid West Region.”

He continued: “Under the leadership of CEO Niall Cunningham, the company has made considerable progress since the management buyout of Lufthansa Technik Painting Shannon in 2009. Before this week's announcement, the company has expanded through the establishment of a base at Dublin Airport increasing the Companies capacity by 150% and further expansion followed through the acquisition of two new purpose built hangars in Ostrava, Czech Republic adding a further 100% capacity to the original Company.

Senator Mulcahy noted that 2013 has been “a hugely successful and busy year” for Eirtech Aviation.

He explained: “In March the company announced the completion of the painting of the first 38 aircraft in the Germanwings fleet. In July, the company confirmed details of a major contract win with one of the largest airlines in the world, Southwest Airlines. The announcement comes on foot of an innovative solution for Boeing 737 aircraft, developed by the Shannon firm, for a technical modification that has been mandated by the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA). Meanwhile, the company has also secured a contract to paint the Azerbaijan Fleet, a total of 18 aircraft.”

“The aviation services sector is one that Shannon is well placed to prosper in given the longstanding and impressive track record of companies such as Eirtech Aviation and ongoing efforts by Shannon Group PLC to expand cargo and ancillary aviation services. The development of the sector is being greatly assisted by the Government’s recently enacted ‘Tax Incentives for Ireland's Aviation Industry’. It is up to the industry itself to maximise what is being offered under this innovative scheme,” concluded Senator Mulcahy.
