Ennis artists to showcase work in summer open-air exhibitions

Following the successful Art for All exhibition during the recent Fleadh Nua Weekend, the Clare County Arts Office and Ennis Town Council have announced two additional Saturday open-air exhibitions in the Temple Gate Car Park.

The first exhibition will take place in conjunction with the Ennis Street Festival on Saturday, July 6th with the second following up four weeks later on Saturday, August 3rd. Both exhibitions are open to all artists interested in displaying their work and meeting other artists. The exhibitions take place between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on both days.

The initiative, which is based on a similar and very successful scheme hosted in St. Stephen’s Green in Dublin, was the brainchild of local art student Ann Cronin. Anne, a student of Ennis artist Vincent Killowry's, helped to organise the first open-air art exhibition as part of the Fleadh Nua in 2012.

“These open-air exhibitions are a wonderful opportunity for artists to show their work and for members of the public to come and view some original artwork from local and national artists,” explained County Arts Officer Siobhán Mulcahy.

Commenting on the recent Art for All exhibition, Ms. Mulcahy said: "More than 20 artists from Clare and Galway exhibited during this year’s event, which took place as part of the Fleadh Nua. Unfortunately the weather was not on our side and we had to finish earlier than expected, but all of the artists were anxious to display their work again. Therefore, we are delighted to be able to accommodate them with two further open air exhibitions this summer.”

Registrations to exhibit are now open and anyone interested in exhibiting should contact the County Arts Office on (065) 6899091 or arts@clarelibrary.ie.
